Got Fleas? Get rid of them naturally!

When your pup gets fleas, it is literally the worst! Depending on the severity, they can be very hard to get rid of and there is so many harmful chemicals in the products the are supposed to help get rid of fleas. Here are some natural ways to get rid of fleas and keep them away, safely!!
  1. Wash Everything Washable

Anything that your pup sleeps or lays on should be washed. Blankets, dog beds, and sheets. For pillows and things not washable, you can place them in the dryer for 15-20 minutes, the heat kills fleas and their eggs.
  1. Vacuum, Spray, Repeat

Before vacuuming, sprinkle baking soda or borax on the carpet and let sit for a few hours. This kills any fleas, larva, and eggs throughout. Keep your pets away from the areas so they do not lick any powder from the carpet, it could make them sick. Then vacuum! Put everything vacuumed up in a sealed bag so any fleas that may have survived do not crawl back out!
Make a Lavender and citrus spray. Lavender oil and citrus keeps fleas, ticks, mosquitos, and flies away, plus smells fantastic. A few drops of Lavender oil and thinly sliced lemons into a pan of water, heat, let sit (preferable overnight), and spray your heart away! You can also use this spray outside, around the inside of your house, and where your dog plays.
  1. Give Your Pup a Bath

Give your pup a bath with gentle or all natural shampoo. There are all natural flea shampoos that contain ingredients, like peppermint oil, that are safe for your pet and family that will get rid of the fleas! Be thorough as possible and make sure to continue to drain the sink or tub, as fleas are likely to fall off and float in the water. You can also use blue dish soap!
  1. Trim and Spray Outside

Don’t forget to treat the outside areas that your pup goes! Fleas like dark, cool places so keep your bushes trimmed and grass mowed. You can use your natural lavender and citrus spray or make a peppermint and tea tree oil spray!
Remember that even though these are natural remedies, to not directly spray or use these suggestions on your pets. And do not use essential oils around cats! Keep these remedies up and you’ll be flea free!
